Tom BockTom's Biography

My name is Tom Bock, and I currently live on Old Kensico Road in the Fulton Park neighborhood of the Town of Greenburgh. I am a life-long Elmsford/Greenburgh resident. Married twenty-one years ago, I moved to Fulton Park with my wife, Sue. We have a
17-year-old son. My parents still live in the Beaver Hill section of Elmsford/Greenburgh,
where I grew up. I attended the Pocantico Hills Grammar School, Archbishop Stepinac HS and Westchester Community College, where I received an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice.

Like most of you, I am disgusted and fed up with the exorbitant tax increases we´ve suffered over the years. Our County government is a difficult-to-navigate, obtrusive and unresponsive lumbering giant that does not operate efficiently or for the majority of it´s residents only special interest groups. We´ve had to stomach patronage positions given to people without regard to need, expertise, and expense from our career politicians. The patronage alone is enough cause for us to replace all the current politicians in office!

We´ve seen Playland, a national and local treasure, be mismanaged yearly, to the time of a $3 million deficit. Now that it´s “election-time”, the incumbents are in a “full court press” to reform Playland by instituting a new pricing policy. Why was this left unchanged for so long by these same legislators? Why are they doing it now, during an election year? We all know they are pandering to the public in hopes of saving their legislative backsides.

The Medical Center in Valhalla hasn´t been managed well for years and yet the incumbents constantly increase the WCMCs size and expenditures. The abuses in our county are everywhere we look, and it must stop! I will work to end the abuses, reduce the size of the County government and return accountability and responsibility to the people of Westchester County! We all need to be able to afford to live here! I want my parents to be able to stay in their home as well as my son when he´s ready. I refuse to sell a kidney just to stay in my home?

I am not a career politician. Once I started scrutinizing the people who claim to work for me, I realized quickly they don´t listen, don´t care and aren´t interested in us, only themselves! I´m running for Westchester County Legislator for the 8thDistrict to give all the residents of District 8 real, viable representation. The County and our localities should be responsive to the people in our neighborhoods, not special interests, developers or outsiders! I will not sit back and hope others will do the right thing—they´ve proven they cannot and we can´t wait for someone else. It´s why I am stepping up to the challenge to represent everyone in District 8, which includes portions of White Plains, Greenburgh, Elmsford, Sleepy Hollow and Mount Pleasant.

I have served in many capacities in the fire service in Westchester County and am still an active volunteer firefighter in the Elmsford FD. In 1989 and 1990 1 served as the Chief of the Elmsford Fire Department. I am a member of the Westchester County Hazardous Materials Response Team and am a co-founder of the Westchester County Technical Rescue Team. On September 11, 2001, immediately after we were attacked, I responded with many of my firematic colleagues to NYC, to help. Afterwards, to improve the planning and safety of the residents and guests of Westchester County, I was asked to participate with, and serve on the County´s Weapons of Mass Destruction Planning Committee as well as the Special Operations Oversight Committee. All of these are performed as volunteer positions. I´ve been a participant of this community all of my adult life—and will continue to do so regardless of this election.

I am very proud to be a founding Board of Director for the Just Imagine Making Miracles Yours (J.I.M.M.Y.) Foundation, helping seriously ill children and children with life threatening illnesses and their families. I have also worked as the liaison for the Westchester County Volunteer Firefighter´s Association with the Bum Center at the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, which is very rewarding and extremely depressing at the same time.

Help me, help us, to change and improve our county. It is obvious our voices have been ignored; all the while our wallets are being emptied. I want to see county government reduced in size. We all want our county government to be filled with honest and moral people. Help me do this by joining my campaign and/or vote for me on November 3. I can truthfully say, because the present county government has taken so much of my money, I need your financial support! Join me! It´s time for US to be heard! Most of the candidates or legislators are attorneys with salaries that can easy fund any campaign. That´s sure sounds like more of what we already have now. We need a new beginning!

If you are a member of a group that would like to meet with me to discuss your neighborhood issues, hear how I feel about what is being done to us, and what I plan to do to change things, contact me at the email address below or by phone. Let´s get control of our government back to its owners, you and I.
